If like a lot people you have no regard for the indiscriminate dissemination of your personal information there is no problem for you. That as opposed to looking up random numbers in the phone book. In that case, dishonest people are more likely to steal your identity as your information stands a better chance of making a lot of money for them. The information that someone is interested in photography and spends funds on a subscription bespeaks that this individual is more likely to be affluent. In considering this breach in regards to identity theft there is another problem. In addition I will now be waiting for several other solicitations coming in the mail from this breach which I will have to be bothered with. That insures that if they sell my information it will bring a higher price as it is validated and certified. No other choice is given and I am wondering if they might charge me for not returning the CD that I didn’t ask for and don’t want as that would add additional information that my address is correct and valid etc. decline the offer and send the CD back to them. I told her that I receive Popular Photography as well as several other hobby magazines and have had subscriptions for as long as a quarter century and never had my information divulged or ever received a direct solicitation from any company that my information was given to, from any of those magazines.īesides from this breach of information the card enclosed with this solicitation offer gives you only two choices 1. Next Nichole told me that this was a common occurrence in the industry. Then I asked her if she could insure that the other company (Ultimate Photoguide) would honor protecting my information, if they haven’t sold it yet, and she said she could not assure me of that. Nichole mentioned that she will put a stop to any further dissemination of my personal information. But even if this is legal it casts a lot of shadow on Shutterbug’s principles and whether they are giving due care to protect my information. Personally I believe that violates the privacy act of congress. They state that Shutterbug magazine gave them my personal information so that they could solicit my business via the US mail. Opening the package, I note that they address me by my first name. That was not my intent when I got the subscription. However, I now get a package with an offer that I do not want, did not ask for and am upset that my information has been sold to another company. I therefore assume that my privacy would stay intact and not be sold or disseminated. There was no privacy disclaimer anywhere on my application for the subscription. I don’t know about you but I m very protective of my private information. Just after the first issue came, I received a solicitation package from a company called Ultimate Photography. I recently purchased a subscription to Shutterbug Magazine. 100 DELIVERY GUARANTEE Our customers will receive their magazine subscriptions within the quoted magazine delivery time frames or they will receive a 100 refund for their subscription.
