Whether or not achievements are "secure" should not be anyone's concern. People can literally unlock any achievement at will with Steam. I think it's quite interesting that the stats prove cheating is a non issue. I like achievements as little check lists of things in games. I'd argue the fact the achievement stats prove most don't intentionally cheat through them all means it doesn't render them pointless at all. You can also use something like SAM to simply give you the achievement anyway (or take them away, I sometimes remove my achievements when I start a new 100% playthrough in a game I've already beaten so I can get achievement pop-ups again). And not just for Bethesda games, but for most games that do try to disable achievements when you use mods. Just about every one of their games has exploits that can turn your character into god-mode within a few dozen minutes, which kinda makes most achievements pointless anyway.Īlso, for PC at least, there's mods that re-enable achievements on modded games.
